A sanitary sewer overflow happens when a blockage or unexpected water infiltration causes the sewer lines to back up and overflow. This releases raw sewage onto the ground and potentially into nearby waterways.

If you think you see or smell a leaking sewer line, call the City of Columbia RIGHT AWAY and report it! The sooner we know about it, the sooner we can fix it!
